1. Don’t wait to wash. The longer cloth diapers sit, the tougher they are to clean. And that pile needs only to attract one fly before you have a maggot problem. Yeah, I just gagged a little too.
2. Don’t use petroleum-based diaper creams. They cause buildup that can repel urine from soaking in which ultimately causes leaks. How do you know if your mother-in-law used the wrong cream? You’ll see the “white” toothpaste-like stains on the surface. Get that old toothbrush out cause it’s time to brush!
3. Don’t stuff pockets until all the material has cooled. Doing otherwise can cause wear/break down diaper elastics. “I love replacing elastics” – said no one. ever.
4. Don’t be afraid to use mainstream detergent and/or bleach. Yeah, I said it. It’s a touchy subject, I know. But you’re a mom. You know what’s best for your kids…same with the dipes. Rinse–Wash–Rinse…that coupled with your best judgement is all you need for ultra-clean cloth diapers. Your nose will thank you for it.
